The Botswana Red Cross Society's DREF assessments began positively in Mabutsane, Hukuntsi, and the North East. The assessment teams were warmly welcomed by various village leaders, including the Chief and District Commissioner. During their visit, they were encouraged to embody the principles of Botho and to ensure fairness and respect for all community members, regardless of their status.

Presentations on the procedures for conducting household assessments were provided. The District Health Management Team (DHMT) conducted sessions on malnutrition, hygiene, and health promotion. Meanwhile, the Social and Community Development (S&CD) team covered the criteria for selecting beneficiaries.

In preparation for the household assessments, BRCS volunteers received training in basic communication skills. The team utilizes the KOBO tool to gather information during these assessments.
